Other than Cannabis, what other herbs can I use in my vape?
As we all know this world is covered in plants that have been used for 1000s of years for recreational, ceremonial as well as medicinal purposes. With today’s health conscious awareness expanding it’s time to take a look at some the herbs still used today. And while smoking is still common, vaporizing has quickly become the optimum choice.
There are many benefits to vaporizing opposed to smoking that allow us a safe and effective way to experiment with these herbs and their benefits to man, ranging from antiseptics, antiviral, anti-depressants, immune boosting to mild euphoric and even lucid dreaming. One might even go as far as to say that with every “dis-ease” there is an herb to cure it.
So with that being said let’s take a look at some of the herbs that can be used in your vaporizer, weather for medicinal or just wanting to create a great herbal mix for your favorite smoke.
On a medicinal note herbs like Rosemary, Thyme, Eucalyptus, Basil, Sage, Peppermint, Marshmallow Root and Mullein Leaf are good for relieving symptoms of colds, flues and respiratory conditions; each containing more specific uses and benefits.
Herbs like Chamomile, Lavender, Catnip, Valerian, Passion Flower, Lemon Balm, Hobs, Saint John’s Wart, Motherwort and Mugwort are used for their calming, sedative properties, treating insomnia and used in meditation; Lemon balm also known to increase blood circulation and relax nervous symptoms while Lavender also stimulates
blood flow and is said to enhance a feeling of well being.
Herbs used for depression, anxiety, and even pain relief are Medical Cannabis, Chamomile, Lemon grass and even Saint John’s wart. The herb Damiana is not only an anti-depressant but also used for menstrual cramps, urinary infections, strengthen the immune system and has also been used as an aphrodisiac in native American, Mexican and Mayan cultures.
Stimulants and herbs used to enhance energy and mental focus are; Ginseng, Green Tea, Yerba Mate, Muria Pauma, Kola Nut and Maca Root. Morning Glory is a herb not only for mental focus and concentration it also contains LSA (Lysergic Acid Amide) similar to that of LSD which has a mild euphoric effect as well as an anti-depressant and anxiety relief.
Besides for the very many medicinal properties of herbs and herb like plants there are those that are used for a more recreational and ceremonial benefits, herbs such as Wild Dagga, Damiana, Hops, Salvia Divinorum, California Poppy, Morning Glory, Cannabis and Blue Lotus which can help unwind after a long stressful day.
I could go into more depth in each of these herbs as they have many uses and properties but as an over view we will just tap into them. Articles to follow we will dive into these more as I feel there is a whole world of experiences and benefits that need to be made known to the vaporing community.
Other than the obvious benefits and side effects finding the right combination can not only improve the flavor but also the effects.
My aim is to broaden the spectrum of dry herb vaporizing and open the world of Medicinal plants.
Red Raspberry leaf, Root of licorice, Skullcap, Marrigold, Peppermint, Marshmallow root, Sage and Lavender are great for flavor and scent. So play around and find the right mix for you. Just make sure that you use organic to prevent pesticide or herbicide absorption.
Something for you to try:
Vaporize the Lavender Herb – easy to obtain and very flavorful. This sweet smelling herb has great calming effects and will leave you with feelings of well being and is suitable for all ages. You can Vaporize lavender between 130◦C - 190◦C, be sure not to exceed 200◦C as this can cause combustion.
Lavenders medicinal benefits are:
• Anti-Depressant
• Powerful anti-bacterial and anti-septic
• Ease headaches and migraines
• Stimulate blood flow
• Muscle relaxant
Another herb you can try is Saliva Divinorum, A powerful psychedelic with short intense hallucinations. This popular herb is heightened when vaporized and will take the user to a maximum intensity trip skipping the mild and medium effects completely. Vaporize this herb between 175-230◦C, you will feel the effects within seconds of inhaling.
I recommend having a sober sitter present when vaporizing any amount of Salvia Divinorum as it can cause the user to pass out or take the user to a point similar to general anesthesia. You will most likely have little to no memory of your experience, especially if the dose is high enough.
I look forward to hearing feedback on those of you who try Lavender or Saliva Divinorum, any comments and experiences would be greatly appreciated.
Take care to do proper research into which herbs will work best for you as well as safe doses and correct vaporizing tempreatures, in Part 2 of this blog I will go into more depth of each including temperature, effects and best mixes.
For now Happy Vaping All and be safe.
